I once saw a quote that made me really laugh, it said, “Dog owners will pick names like Max or Bailey and cat owners will literally name their cat beef stroganoff!” It making me laugh again now reading it! I would love to jump to the defence of my fellow cat owners and say, “Oh no they wouldn’t” But sadly its true. Over the years at Meow hotel, I can confirm its very true! Maybe it’s a Derby thing or maybe cat parents just think their cat is just so sweet and delicious they could just eat them up hence naming the kitty after their favourite food. But whatever it is I always look forward to guessing what the cat will look like based of their name and 9 times out of 10 I get it right!
If I hear a proper human name I just love it! I have had many pets some with and without fur, over the years and I’ve always called them people names such as Hector the hamster, Eve the corn snake, Emma the rat, Pat the chicken, Roxanne the poodle, Marco the cat and many, many more. I don’t know why but these kind of names makes me think what kind of personality they would have if a human ………or is it only me that thinks like that after spending my days talking only to cats.
Then on the other hand you have the cats named after food or other animals, these are the names that get me guessing what will the cat look like. If I hear the name Biscuit, I instantly imagine the cat to a smoky brown tortoiseshell and quite fluffy. Tiger……straight away I can picture a ginger tom.
According to Country living magazine, Luna comes first place in the top 20 cat names in the UK. But whatever you call your beloved fur babies, they suit their personality and appearance purrectly.
